Don't Ever Give Up

A young man had been to Wednesday Night Bible Study.
The Pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice.
The young man couldn't help but wonder, "Does God still speak to people?"
After service, he went out with some friends for coffe and pie and they discussed the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led them in different ways.
It was about ten o'clock when the young man started driving home. Sitting in his car, he just began to pray, 'God...If you still speak to people, speak to me. I will listen. I will do my best to obey.'
As he drove down the main street of his town, he had the strangest thought to stop and buy a gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud, 'God is that you?' He didn't get a reply and started on toward home.
But again, the thought, buy a gallon of milk. The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize the voice of God, and how little Samuel ran to Eli.
'Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy the milk.' It didn't seem like too hard a test of obedience. He could always use the milk. He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and started off toward home.
As he passed Seventh Street , he again felt the urge, 'Turn Down that street.'
This is crazy he thought, and drove on past the intersection.Again, he felt that he should turn down Seventh Street. At the next intersection, he turned back and headed down Seventh. Half jokingly, he said out loud,'Okay, God, I will.'
He drove several blocks, when suddenly, he felt like he should stop He pulled over to the curb and looked around. He was in a semi- commercial area of town. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either.
The businesses were closed and most of the houses looked dark like the people were already in bed.
Again, he sensed something, 'Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street.' The young man looked at the house. It was dark and it looked like the people were either gone or they were already asleep. He started to open the door and then sat back in the car seat.
'Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep and if I wake them up, they are going to be mad and I will look stupid.' Again, he felt like he should go and give the milk.
Finally, he opened the door, 'Okay God, if this is you, I will go to the door and I will give them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient. I guess that will count for something, but if they don't answer right away, I am out of here.'
He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear some noise inside. A man's voice yelled out, 'Who is it? What do you want?' Then the door opened before the young man could get away.
The man was standing there in his jeans and T-shirt. He looked like he just got out of bed. He had a strange look on his face and he didn't seem too happy to have some stranger standing on his doorstep. 'What is it?'
The young man thrust out the gallon of milk, 'Here, I brought this to you.' The man took the milk and rushed down a hallway. Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man was following her holding a baby. The baby was crying. The man had tears streaming down his face.
The man began speaking and half crying, 'We were just praying. We had some big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn't have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk.'
His wife in the kitchen yelled out, 'I ask him to send an Angel with some. Are you an Angel?'
The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he had on him and put in the man's hand.
He turned and walked back toward his car and the tears were streaming down his face.
He knew that God still answers prayers.

This might be ueful to somebody.

· Warren Buffett's SecretsThat Can Work for You
· With an estimated fortune of $62 billion, Warren Buffett is the richest man in the entire world. In 1962, when he began buying stock in Berkshire Hathaway, a share cost $7.50. Today, Buffett, 78, is Berkshire’s chairman and CEO, and one share of the company’s class A stock is worth close to $119,000. He credits his astonishing success to several key strategies, which he has shared with writer Alice Schroeder.
·
No. 1: Reinvest Your Profits
When you first make money, you may be tempted to spend it. Don't. Instead, reinvest the profits. Buffett learned this early on. In high school, he and a pal bought a pinball machine to put in a barbershop. With the money they earned, they bought more machines until they had eight in different shops. When the friends sold the venture, Buffett used the proceeds to buy stocks and to start another small business.
· No. 2: Be Willing to Be Different
Don't base your decisions upon what everyone is saying or doing. When Buffett began managing money in 1956 with $100,000 cobbled together from a handful of investors, he was dubbed an oddball. He worked in Omaha, not on Wall Street, and he refused to tell his partners where he was putting their money. People predicted that he'd fail, but when he closed his partnership 14 years later, it was worth more than $100 million.
· No. 3: Never Suck Your Thumb
Gather in advance any information you need to make a decision, and ask a friend or relative to make sure that you stick to a deadline. Buffett prides himself on swiftly making up his mind and acting on it. He calls any unnecessary sitting and thinking "thumb-sucking."
· No. 4: Spell Out the Deal Before You Start
Your bargaining leverage is always greatest before you begin a job -- that's when you have something to offer that the other party wants. Buffett learned this lesson the hard way as a kid, when his grandfather Ernest hired him and a friend to dig out the family grocery store after a blizzard. The boys spent five hours shoveling until they could barely straighten their frozen hands. Afterward, his grandfather gave the pair less than 90 cents to split.
· No. 5: Watch Small Expenses
Buffett invests in businesses run by managers who obsess over the tiniest costs. He once acquired a company whose owner counted the sheets in rolls of 500-sheet toilet paper to see if he was being cheated (he was). He also admired a friend who painted only the side of his office building that faced the road.
· No. 6: Limit What You Borrow
Buffett has never borrowed a significant amount -- not to invest, not for a mortgage. He has gotten many heartrending letters from people who thought their borrowing was manageable but became overwhelmed by debt. His advice: Negotiate with creditors to pay what you can. Then, when you're debt-free, work on saving some money that you can use to invest.
· No. 7: Be Persistent
With tenacity and ingenuity, you can win against a more established competitor. Buffett acquired the Nebraska Furniture Mart in 1983 because he liked the way its founder, Rose Blumkin, did business. A Russian immigrant, she built the mart from a pawnshop into the largest furniture store in North America. Her strategy was to undersell the big shots, and she was a merciless negotiator.
· No. 8: Know When to Quit
Once, when Buffett was a teen, he went to the racetrack. He bet on a race and lost. To recoup his funds, he bet on another race. He lost again, leaving him with close to nothing. He felt sick -- he had squandered nearly a week's earnings. Buffett never repeated that mistake.
· No. 9: Assess the Risks
In 1995, the employer of Buffett's son, Howie, was accused by the FBI of price-fixing. Buffett advised Howie to imagine the worst- and best-case scenarios if he stayed with the company. His son quickly realized that the risks of staying far outweighed any potential gains, and he quit the next day.
· No. 10: Know What Success Really MeansDespite his wealth, Buffett does not measure success by dollars. In 2006, he pledged to give away almost his entire fortune to charities, primarily the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He's adamant about not funding monuments to himself—no Warren Buffett buildings or halls. "When you get to my age, you'll measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you. That's the ultimate test of how you've lived your life."

Emergency Preparedness

I know the fact that we are posting something might shock many of you but the department sent the following information out to all members and I thought it might be good to share so if this works here goes.

Subject: National Preparedness Month

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is recognizing September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). NPM is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for all types of emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.

LVMPD recognizes the importance of Personal Preparedness and is encouraging all members of this agency to ensure they are prepared.

It is imperative as representatives of the largest law enforce/first responder agency in the State of Nevada, we ensure that our families are prepared so if an event were to occur in Southern Nevada we would fulfill our responsibilities to the community.

Preparedness steps include:
Get a Kit

Recommended Items
Water – 1 gallon per person/pet per day
Food – at least 3 day supply of non-perishable food
Battery Powered or hand crank am/fm radio and a weather radio
Flashlight and extra batteries
First Aid Kit
Dust Mask(s)
Whistle to signal for help
Moist towelettes and garbage bags for personal sanitation
Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Can opener for food
Local Maps

Additional Items
· Prescription medication and glasses
· Infant formula, diapers, toys, etc.
· Important family documents
· Cash and travelers checks
· Complete change of clothing for each person
· Warm blankets or sleeping bag for each person
· Feminine Supplies
· Matches
· Paper goods (plates, cups, napkins, utensils)
· Coins or pre-paid phone card

When making your kit, consider the storage container required and whether you will be sheltering in place or evacuating. Completed kits are available for purchase online as well as local retail stores.
Make A Plan

Your family may not be together when an emergency happens, so it is important to plan in advance: how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.

Family Emergency Plan
Include Out of town contacts (name, phone number, address)
Neighborhood meeting place
Evacuation location
Important medical information
Ensure everyone in your family has a copy of the plan and contact information

It is also imperative that LVMPD employees ensure that their emergency contact information is current.

Be Informed

TV, Radio, Web-based media
Local Emergency Plans
Local weather and emergency updates sent to your email or phone
Know how to contact your immediate supervisor
Be familiar with the types of natural and man-made emergencies that can happen in our community

There is a tremendous amount of personal preparedness information available online. Forms and checklists are available for Family Emergency Plans and preparing your kit at www.ready.gov . Listed below are some very helpful websites:

One of the scariest moments of my life

So this evening we were running errands (Dave, Jack and me) and Jack wanted "Num nums"...well all I had was a dum dum sucker that he had gotten at the bank so I gave it to him. Pretty quickly he said "All done" and handed me the stick. I thought to myself that was quick and saw him chewing and assumed that he was chewing it up. A couple of seconds later he starts to cough and I turn around to see him choking...As Dave said "Get back there" I was taking off my seat belt and took my index finger and scooped out the little sucker ball from the middle of his espophagus. Apparently during this time Dave was asking me all sorts of questions that I was not answering as Jack proceeded to throw up all over me and his car seat. I have never been soooo scared in my entire life...I had heard you arent supposed to put your finger in there if a child is choking (your supposed to hit their back) but that was all I could do in that situation. Jack was fine and laughing a few seconds later but both parents were pretty shaken up for the rest of the night.

NEEDLESS TO SAY SUCKERS OF ALL KIND ARE NOW BANNED UNTIL HE IS EIGHTEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Those interested

There is a product, which I believe is sold at Costco, called Emergency Food Supply 275 servings. You can also order direct from the web site which is http://www.foodforhealthint.com/ . Once there click on the emergencies and disasters tab to view those products. It is very inexpensive and easy to store. You even have the option to sample the products before you purchase it. They also have an emergency supply kit that can sustain life for 2 people for up to 6 days. I hope you find this information useful. The next few years may prove to be difficult for a lot of people.

Bubba

Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. But, all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic. And since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Bubba, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass.. and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, 'You were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic. Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Bubba's yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish.
