Helpful Information

The health of today's children is in jeopardy. "In the last 10 years, diabetes in children has doubled; there's a growing obesity epidemic among children, and we're seeing heart disease start in children," says Joel Fuhrman, M.D., family physician in Flemington, N.J., and author of "Eat for Health" and "Disease-Proof Your Child."
The consequences are so dire, in fact, that health authorities are now predicting that this generation of children will be the first to have a shorter life span than their parents. So what habits are putting kids in jeopardy?
Fuhrman pulled together the 10 worst offenders but issues this warning: "Parents can't force children to do anything they aren't doing themselves, which is why parents also need to change their habits to become better role models."
1. Filling up on food made with white flour
White flour has zero nutritional value, which is why Fuhrman believes it should be banned from foods. "White flour's been linked to obesity and cancer-causing cell development," he says.
Bottom line: Don't buy food made with white flour. Instead, choose 100 percent whole-grain products.
Soda is loaded with sugar (about 13 teaspoons per can) artificial sweeteners, caffeine and empty calories (about 150 in a regular soda). Plus, soda might displace healthy beverages like milk or water and cause tooth decay. Bottom line: Nix soda from your child's diet and replace it with water, milk and other healthy beverages.
3. Not exercising
Today's kids are leading inactive lifestyles, putting them at risk for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis.
Bottom line: Make physical activity as important for your kids as brushing their teeth. By instilling the exercise habit in them when they're young, they'll be more likely to stick with it as adults. Just remember that kids learn by example, so get active with them.
4. Eating processed and barbecued meats
Your kids might love baloney sandwiches and hamburgers, but processed and barbecued meats have been linked to cancer, especially colon cancer.
Bottom line: Steer your kids clear of this kind of meat, and instead, turn them on to more healthy, wholesome foods like fruits, veggies, beans, nuts and seeds.
5. Being overweight
While it might be vogue to be heavy -- roughly 16 percent of kids aged two to 19 are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- that extra weight could cause your child serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Bottom line: Clean up your diet, and your family will follow. Likewise, become a regular exerciser, and encourage your children to get more active.
6. Not eating enough fruits and veggies
Fruits and veggies are loaded with disease-fighting nutrients, which is why kids who don't eat enough are at greater risk for developing cancer and other chronic health conditions.
Bottom line: Make fruits and veggies the mainstay of meals, and your kids will easily get the servings they need. Check MyPyramid.gov to view fruit and veggie requirements for kids or try AOL Health's handy Veggie and Fruit Tracker to calculate daily requirements.
7. Too many hours in front of the TV
Watching TV and playing video games are sedentary activities that encourage snacking and often replace physical activity. TV viewing also exposes your kids to risky behaviors like smoking and drinking, which could influence them.
Bottom line: Limit your kids' use of the TV and computer. Children under two years old should not watch any TV, while kids over two should be limited to no more than two hours of media time a day, per the American Academy of Pediatrics.
8. Noshing sugary treats and foods
Your kids might go gaga over treats, but they're nutrient-poor, calorie-laden foods. Most are also made with refined grains, which have been linked to cancer. Plus, the more your kids eat these, the more they could begin craving them, which could eventually boost their weight.
Bottom line: Limit sugar in your children's diet as much as possible. Ban sugary cereals, cookies and candy from your pantry. Then become a savvy label reader, looking for hidden sugars in everything from granola bars toketchup and even pasta sauces. To satisfy a sweet tooth, serve fruit as a dessert or a snack.
9. Eating fast food
"Fast food is for parents who don't care about their kids," Fuhrman says. By buying them fast food, you're giving them the lowest quality food, which adds calories, fat and little nutrition to their diets. The end result? You could wind up with an overweight, unhealthy child. Plus, if they're eating fried foods or food cooked at high temperatures, they're noshing cancer-causing compounds.
Bottom line: Boycott all fast food.
0. Not getting enough vitamin D
Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to dozens of health conditions, including rickets, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Sunshine is the best source of vitamin D, but most kids don't spend enough hours outside to get all they need. Plus, if you live in a northern climate, getting enough vitamin D in the winter can be impossible.
Bottom line: Make sure your child is getting 400 IU of vitamin D daily through a multivitamin and/or vitamin D supplement.

How did he get were he is?

Perhaps there are SOME out there who are beginning to get 'the picture'. The following is a narrative taken from Sunday Morning's televised 'Meet The Press'. and the author is employed by none other than the Washington Post!! Yeah......the Washington Post of New York and Los Angeles Times fame!! Must say that I'm dually impressed..................From Sunday's Televised 'Meet the Press' Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag. Obama Explains the National Anthem Stance Sun, 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, General Bill Ginn' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played. The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'Senator Obama Live on Sunday states, 'As I've said before about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.' We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails perhaps a state or period of mutual concord would exist between our governments. When I become President, I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice. My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine. Of course now, I have found myself about to become the
President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope. My wife and I look forward to becoming our country's First Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America.' WHAAAAAAAT is this country (USA) GOING TO COME TO IF THIS MAN IS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF AMERICA!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right. This could possibly be our next President. I, for one, am speechless.

Don't Ever Give Up

A young man had been to Wednesday Night Bible Study.
The Pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice.
The young man couldn't help but wonder, "Does God still speak to people?"
After service, he went out with some friends for coffe and pie and they discussed the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led them in different ways.
It was about ten o'clock when the young man started driving home. Sitting in his car, he just began to pray, 'God...If you still speak to people, speak to me. I will listen. I will do my best to obey.'
As he drove down the main street of his town, he had the strangest thought to stop and buy a gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud, 'God is that you?' He didn't get a reply and started on toward home.
But again, the thought, buy a gallon of milk. The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize the voice of God, and how little Samuel ran to Eli.
'Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy the milk.' It didn't seem like too hard a test of obedience. He could always use the milk. He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and started off toward home.
As he passed Seventh Street , he again felt the urge, 'Turn Down that street.'
This is crazy he thought, and drove on past the intersection.Again, he felt that he should turn down Seventh Street. At the next intersection, he turned back and headed down Seventh. Half jokingly, he said out loud,'Okay, God, I will.'
He drove several blocks, when suddenly, he felt like he should stop He pulled over to the curb and looked around. He was in a semi- commercial area of town. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either.
The businesses were closed and most of the houses looked dark like the people were already in bed.
Again, he sensed something, 'Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street.' The young man looked at the house. It was dark and it looked like the people were either gone or they were already asleep. He started to open the door and then sat back in the car seat.
'Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep and if I wake them up, they are going to be mad and I will look stupid.' Again, he felt like he should go and give the milk.
Finally, he opened the door, 'Okay God, if this is you, I will go to the door and I will give them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient. I guess that will count for something, but if they don't answer right away, I am out of here.'
He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear some noise inside. A man's voice yelled out, 'Who is it? What do you want?' Then the door opened before the young man could get away.
The man was standing there in his jeans and T-shirt. He looked like he just got out of bed. He had a strange look on his face and he didn't seem too happy to have some stranger standing on his doorstep. 'What is it?'
The young man thrust out the gallon of milk, 'Here, I brought this to you.' The man took the milk and rushed down a hallway. Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man was following her holding a baby. The baby was crying. The man had tears streaming down his face.
The man began speaking and half crying, 'We were just praying. We had some big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn't have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk.'
His wife in the kitchen yelled out, 'I ask him to send an Angel with some. Are you an Angel?'
The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he had on him and put in the man's hand.
He turned and walked back toward his car and the tears were streaming down his face.
He knew that God still answers prayers.

This might be ueful to somebody.

· Warren Buffett's SecretsThat Can Work for You
· With an estimated fortune of $62 billion, Warren Buffett is the richest man in the entire world. In 1962, when he began buying stock in Berkshire Hathaway, a share cost $7.50. Today, Buffett, 78, is Berkshire’s chairman and CEO, and one share of the company’s class A stock is worth close to $119,000. He credits his astonishing success to several key strategies, which he has shared with writer Alice Schroeder.
·
No. 1: Reinvest Your Profits
When you first make money, you may be tempted to spend it. Don't. Instead, reinvest the profits. Buffett learned this early on. In high school, he and a pal bought a pinball machine to put in a barbershop. With the money they earned, they bought more machines until they had eight in different shops. When the friends sold the venture, Buffett used the proceeds to buy stocks and to start another small business.
· No. 2: Be Willing to Be Different
Don't base your decisions upon what everyone is saying or doing. When Buffett began managing money in 1956 with $100,000 cobbled together from a handful of investors, he was dubbed an oddball. He worked in Omaha, not on Wall Street, and he refused to tell his partners where he was putting their money. People predicted that he'd fail, but when he closed his partnership 14 years later, it was worth more than $100 million.
· No. 3: Never Suck Your Thumb
Gather in advance any information you need to make a decision, and ask a friend or relative to make sure that you stick to a deadline. Buffett prides himself on swiftly making up his mind and acting on it. He calls any unnecessary sitting and thinking "thumb-sucking."
· No. 4: Spell Out the Deal Before You Start
Your bargaining leverage is always greatest before you begin a job -- that's when you have something to offer that the other party wants. Buffett learned this lesson the hard way as a kid, when his grandfather Ernest hired him and a friend to dig out the family grocery store after a blizzard. The boys spent five hours shoveling until they could barely straighten their frozen hands. Afterward, his grandfather gave the pair less than 90 cents to split.
· No. 5: Watch Small Expenses
Buffett invests in businesses run by managers who obsess over the tiniest costs. He once acquired a company whose owner counted the sheets in rolls of 500-sheet toilet paper to see if he was being cheated (he was). He also admired a friend who painted only the side of his office building that faced the road.
· No. 6: Limit What You Borrow
Buffett has never borrowed a significant amount -- not to invest, not for a mortgage. He has gotten many heartrending letters from people who thought their borrowing was manageable but became overwhelmed by debt. His advice: Negotiate with creditors to pay what you can. Then, when you're debt-free, work on saving some money that you can use to invest.
· No. 7: Be Persistent
With tenacity and ingenuity, you can win against a more established competitor. Buffett acquired the Nebraska Furniture Mart in 1983 because he liked the way its founder, Rose Blumkin, did business. A Russian immigrant, she built the mart from a pawnshop into the largest furniture store in North America. Her strategy was to undersell the big shots, and she was a merciless negotiator.
· No. 8: Know When to Quit
Once, when Buffett was a teen, he went to the racetrack. He bet on a race and lost. To recoup his funds, he bet on another race. He lost again, leaving him with close to nothing. He felt sick -- he had squandered nearly a week's earnings. Buffett never repeated that mistake.
· No. 9: Assess the Risks
In 1995, the employer of Buffett's son, Howie, was accused by the FBI of price-fixing. Buffett advised Howie to imagine the worst- and best-case scenarios if he stayed with the company. His son quickly realized that the risks of staying far outweighed any potential gains, and he quit the next day.
· No. 10: Know What Success Really MeansDespite his wealth, Buffett does not measure success by dollars. In 2006, he pledged to give away almost his entire fortune to charities, primarily the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He's adamant about not funding monuments to himself—no Warren Buffett buildings or halls. "When you get to my age, you'll measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you. That's the ultimate test of how you've lived your life."

Emergency Preparedness

I know the fact that we are posting something might shock many of you but the department sent the following information out to all members and I thought it might be good to share so if this works here goes.

Subject: National Preparedness Month

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is recognizing September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). NPM is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for all types of emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.

LVMPD recognizes the importance of Personal Preparedness and is encouraging all members of this agency to ensure they are prepared.

It is imperative as representatives of the largest law enforce/first responder agency in the State of Nevada, we ensure that our families are prepared so if an event were to occur in Southern Nevada we would fulfill our responsibilities to the community.

Preparedness steps include:
Get a Kit

Recommended Items
Water – 1 gallon per person/pet per day
Food – at least 3 day supply of non-perishable food
Battery Powered or hand crank am/fm radio and a weather radio
Flashlight and extra batteries
First Aid Kit
Dust Mask(s)
Whistle to signal for help
Moist towelettes and garbage bags for personal sanitation
Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Can opener for food
Local Maps

Additional Items
· Prescription medication and glasses
· Infant formula, diapers, toys, etc.
· Important family documents
· Cash and travelers checks
· Complete change of clothing for each person
· Warm blankets or sleeping bag for each person
· Feminine Supplies
· Matches
· Paper goods (plates, cups, napkins, utensils)
· Coins or pre-paid phone card

When making your kit, consider the storage container required and whether you will be sheltering in place or evacuating. Completed kits are available for purchase online as well as local retail stores.
Make A Plan

Your family may not be together when an emergency happens, so it is important to plan in advance: how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.

Family Emergency Plan
Include Out of town contacts (name, phone number, address)
Neighborhood meeting place
Evacuation location
Important medical information
Ensure everyone in your family has a copy of the plan and contact information

It is also imperative that LVMPD employees ensure that their emergency contact information is current.

Be Informed

TV, Radio, Web-based media
Local Emergency Plans
Local weather and emergency updates sent to your email or phone
Know how to contact your immediate supervisor
Be familiar with the types of natural and man-made emergencies that can happen in our community

There is a tremendous amount of personal preparedness information available online. Forms and checklists are available for Family Emergency Plans and preparing your kit at www.ready.gov . Listed below are some very helpful websites:

One of the scariest moments of my life

So this evening we were running errands (Dave, Jack and me) and Jack wanted "Num nums"...well all I had was a dum dum sucker that he had gotten at the bank so I gave it to him. Pretty quickly he said "All done" and handed me the stick. I thought to myself that was quick and saw him chewing and assumed that he was chewing it up. A couple of seconds later he starts to cough and I turn around to see him choking...As Dave said "Get back there" I was taking off my seat belt and took my index finger and scooped out the little sucker ball from the middle of his espophagus. Apparently during this time Dave was asking me all sorts of questions that I was not answering as Jack proceeded to throw up all over me and his car seat. I have never been soooo scared in my entire life...I had heard you arent supposed to put your finger in there if a child is choking (your supposed to hit their back) but that was all I could do in that situation. Jack was fine and laughing a few seconds later but both parents were pretty shaken up for the rest of the night.

NEEDLESS TO SAY SUCKERS OF ALL KIND ARE NOW BANNED UNTIL HE IS EIGHTEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Those interested

There is a product, which I believe is sold at Costco, called Emergency Food Supply 275 servings. You can also order direct from the web site which is http://www.foodforhealthint.com/ . Once there click on the emergencies and disasters tab to view those products. It is very inexpensive and easy to store. You even have the option to sample the products before you purchase it. They also have an emergency supply kit that can sustain life for 2 people for up to 6 days. I hope you find this information useful. The next few years may prove to be difficult for a lot of people.

Bubba

Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. But, all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic. And since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Bubba, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass.. and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, 'You were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic. Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Bubba's yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish.

Interesting Email

This was an interesting email that I received so I thought that I would share.

Maureen Dowd, winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary, became a columnist on The New York Times Op-Ed page in 1995 after having served as a correspondent in the paper's Washington bureau since 1986. She has covered four presidential campaigns and served as White House correspondent. She also wrote a column, "On Washington," for The New York Times Magazine.
Ms. Dowd joined The New York Times as a metropolitan reporter in 1983. She began her career in 1974 as an editorial assistant for The Washington Star, where she later became a sports columnist, metropolitan reporter and feature writer. When the Star closed in 1981, she went to Time magazine.
Born in Washington D.C., Ms. Dowd received a B.A. degree in English literature from Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) in 1973.

OBAMA'S TROUBLING INTERNET FUND RAISING
Certainly the most interesting and potentially devastating phone call I have received during this election cycle came this week from one of the Obama's campaign internet geeks. These are the staffers who devised Obama's internet fund raising campaign which raised in the neighborhood of $200 million so far. That is more then twice the total funds raised by any candidate in history - and this was all from the internet campaign.
What I learned from this insider was shocking but I guess we shouldn't be surprised that when it comes to fund raising there simply are no rules that can't be broken and no ethics that prevail.
Obama's internet campaign started out innocently enough with basic e-mail networking, lists saved from previous party campaigns and from supporters who visited any of the Obama campaign web sites.
Small contributions came in from these sources and the internet campaign staff were more than pleased by the results.
Then, about two months into the campaign the daily contribution intake multiplied. Where was it coming from? One of the web site security monitors began to notice the bulk of the contributions were clearly coming in from overseas internet service providers and at the rate and frequency of transmission it was clear these donations were "programmed" by a very sophisticated user.
While the security people were not able to track most of the sources due to firewalls and other blocking devices put on these contributions they were able to collate the number of contributions that were coming in seemingly from individuals but the funds were from only a few credit card accounts and bank electr onic funds transfers. The internet service providers (ISP) they were able to trace were from Saudi Arabia , Iran , and other Middle Eastern countries. One of the banks used for fund transfers was also located in Saudi Arabia .
Another concentrated group of donations was traced to a Chinese ISP with a similar pattern of limited credit card charges.
It became clear that these donations were very likely coming from sources other than American voters. This was discussed at length within the campaign and the decision was made that none of these donations violated campaign financing laws.
It was also decided that it was not the responsibility of the campaign to audit these millions of contributions as to the actual source (specific credit card number or bank transfer account numbers) to insure that none of these internet contributors exceeded the legal maximum donation on a cumulative basis of many small donations. They also found the record keeping was not complete enough to do it anyway.
This is a shocking revelation.
We have been concerned about the legality of "bundling" contributions after the recent exposure of illegal bundlers but now it appears we may have an even greater problem.
I guess we should have been somewhat suspicious when the numbers started to come out. We were told (no proof offered) that the Obama internet contributions were from $10.00 to $25.00 or so.
If the $200,000,000 is right, and the average contribution was $15.00, that would mean over 13 million individuals made contributions? That would also be 13 million contributions would need to be processed. How did all that happen?
I believe the Obama campaign's internet fund raising needs a serious, in depth investigation and audit. It also appears the whole question of internet fund raising needs investigation by the legislature and perhaps new laws to insure i t complies not only with the letter of these laws but the spirit as well.
IS IT RIGHT FOR FOREIGN COUNTRIES TO HAVE AN INVESTMENT IN WHO BECOMES OUR NEXT PRESIDENT??? IF YOU ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH THIS, PLEASE PASS IT ON.
The fact that the NY Times allowed this to be printed is amazing in itself.

Are you blind?

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I would marry you.'
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.
He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.
Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'
This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations. Life Is a Gift, Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak. Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat. Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven. Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.

So is it normal...

for your two year old to stand on a chair with his arms outstretched and say" I'm King of the World." and no, he has not seen Titanic. Just a little funny from Jack today.

In Memory of Frank David Orahood 4.20.36 - 8.24.02

Six years ago today is the day that my father went to be with the Lord. He was the funniest most loving man I have ever met. When I look into my son's eyes I see my Dad there especially when he gives me a certain look or just wants to hold my hand. Hold your loved ones close every day because you never know what tomorrow brings. I love you all!! Rest in peace and I love you daddy!

I will never forget how when my Dad passed away I kept begging God for a sign that he was okay. Several weeks later, our whole family was gathered to take a trip to Ensenada in Mexico where my Dad wanted his ashes spread. We had had a house there for as long as I could remember and I think that my Dad was happiest there. So the night before we left I had the most peaceful dream about dolphins and it was the first night since he died that I had a restful night.

So the next day I was so affected by this dream that I told everyone in the family especially my nieces Kali, Alisa and Megan. So when we got to Mexico the four of us walked onto the beach and right in front of us were about 8 dolphins in front of us swimming. My neices were so excited because they too knew that my Dad was finally at peace and sending me his sign that he was okay.

Real Nashville, TN 911 Calls

These are courtesy of Rob. These are really funny!

Dispatcher : 9-1-1 What is your emergency?
Caller: I heard what sounded like gunshots coming from the brown house on the corner. Dispatcher: Do you have an address?
Caller: No, I have on a blouse and slacks, why?

Dispatcher: What is your emergency?
Caller : Someone broke into my house and took a bite out of my ham and cheese sandwich . Dispatcher : Excuse me?
Caller : I made a ham and cheese sandwich and left it on the kitchen table and when I came back from the bathroom, someone had taken a bite out of it.
Dispatcher : Was anything else taken?
Caller : No, but this has happened to me before and I'm sick and tired of it!

Dispatcher: 9-1-1 What is the nature of your emergency?
Caller: I' m trying to reach nine eleven but my phone doesn't have an eleven on it. Dispatcher: This is nine eleven.
Caller: I thought you just said it was nine-one-one
Dispatcher: Yes, ma'am nine-one-one and nine-eleven are the same thing.
Caller: Honey, I may be old, but I'm not stupid.

Dispatcher: 9-1-1 What's the nature of your emergency?
Caller: My wife is pregnant and her contractions are only two minutes apart
Dispatcher: Is this her first child?
Caller: No, you idiot! This is her husband!

Dispatcher: 9-1-1
Caller: Yeah, I'm having trouble breathing. I'm all out of breath. Darn....I think I'm going to pass out.
Dispatcher: Sir, where are you calling from?
Caller: I'm at a pay phone. North and Foster.
Dispatcher: Sir, an ambulance is on the way. Are you an asthmatic?
Caller: No
Dispatcher: What were you doing before you started having trouble breathing?
Caller: Running from the Police

What a sweet love poem!

I got this email and since I live in rural Utah and dealing with the people that I do with my job I though this was hilarious! Hope that you enjoy!

RED NECK LOVE POEM
SUSIE LEE DONE FELL IN LOVE,
SHE PLANNED TO MARRY JOE.
SHE WAS SO HAPPY 'BOUT IT ALL,
SHE TOLD HER PAPPY SO.
PAPPY TOLD HER, SUSIE GAL,
YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER.
I'D JUST AS SOON YO' MA DON'T KNOW,
BUT JOE IS YO' HALF BROTHER.
SO SUSIE PUT ASIDE HER JOE
AND PLANNED TO MARRY WILL.
BUT AFTER TELLING PAPPY THIS,
HE SAID, 'THERE'S TROUBLE STILL.'
YOU CAN'T MARRY WILL, MY GAL,
AND PLEASE DON'T TELL YO' MOTHER.
BUT WILL AND JOE, AND SEVERAL MO'
I KNOW IS YO' HALF BROTHER..
BUT MAMA KNEW AND SAID,
MY CHILD, JUST DO WHAT MAKES YO' HAPPY.
MARRY WILL OR MARRY JOE;
YOU AIN'T NO KIN TO PAPPY.
Brings a tear to yer eye, doesn't it?

Here's the story of an airhead named Robyn...

As many of you know and maybe some do not -- I am not a Wal Mart shopper. Never really have been, I am a Target girl. However in an effort to save money I am now going through ALL the ads in the Sunday paper. Lo and behold, Wal Mart had Kraft Mac n Cheese 2 for $1 and boxes of crayons for .22 so I decided to do it.

So I buy my items and am walking out. I have been overcharged at some other stores (ie. being charged for 21 cucumbers at one store)so I am getting very diligent about checking my receipt. Oh no I got overcharged for my mac n cheese --- So I walk into customer service and walk up to the guy. I said nicely " I was overcharged for my mac n cheese, they are 2 for $1 and the cashier charged me .50 a box." He looked at me and said "Ma'am that is 2 for $1". I have never left a store so quickly. Must be that new math.

Brady got his first tooth!!

We were over at Mom and Dads on Friday night watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics and Robyn was holding Brady when he grabbed her finger and stuck it in her mouth (he likes to do that). Robyn was like, "Wow, he's going to get his bottom front teeth in soon. I can feel it." Robyn - you were right. On Saturday Brady's first tooth broke through!

Just so you know...

I have a blog too -- It is just my little journal kind of thing. Feel free to go to momtojack.blogspot.com....There are some cute stories about my little boy. Love to you all --- This is fun!

Here's to our health -- Thought this was a good reminder

6 everyday basics to do . . . uh, every day

If you do nothing else, make these life-lengthening habits part of your daily routine:

1. Walk for 30 minutes. You can hoof it all at once, or break it into two 15-minute or three 10-minute sessions . . . just get your body moving and your heart rate going! Aim to take 10,000 steps a day -- a pedometer will help you track your steps.

2. Floss and brush the teeth you wish to keep. If that’s not enough to motivate you, do it for the heart you wish to nurture, the wrinkles you wish to prevent, or the sexual satisfaction you wish to enjoy.

3. Drink several cups of green tea in addition to plenty of water. It’ll help flush out toxins and other baddies.

4. Take your pills:
Get into the habit of popping omega-3s -- 1 gram of metabolically distilled omega-3 fatty acids about 30 minutes before lunch and again before dinner should do the trick. Or skip the supplements and instead eat six walnuts twice a day, or 4 ounces of nonfried fish (not shellfish) three times a week. Try this tasty salmon recipe.
Remember to take your other vitamins and supplements by keeping them in a convenient location like your car, desk, or handbag.
If you’re over the age of 40 (women) or 35 (men), take two baby aspirin (162 mg) at breakfast with a half glass of warm water before and after. Just make sure to get your doctor’s approval first.
Take 300 milligrams of coenzyme Q10 -- get one with a USP (United States Pharmacopeia) verified label -- at breakfast and dinner to boost your mitochondria. My what?
5. Meditate for 5 minutes at some point during the day. In a world with more noise than a preschool classroom, our brains (and souls) need moments of silence to recharge, refocus, and rejuvenate. The key is to search for a path that gives you comfort and offers an opening to finding deeper meaning in life. Never tried it before? Use this to get started.

6. Sleep 7 to 8 hours. Try this ZZZ-hygiene program to get you snoozing like a 19-year-old cat. Do these steps before you head to bed:

a. Finish any must-do tasks (even if it’s just making a list of what you need to do tomorrow) to avoid stress-related tossing and turning.

b. Take care of your nighttime hygiene (brush, floss, wash behind your ears . . . ).

c. Spend a few minutes doing deep breathing and/or meditation.

d. And avoid anything too stimulating, such as watching TV or working out. We know what you’re thinking: What about sex? Sex, though stimulatory (we hope), is okay . . . in fact, it’s recommended.

How to delegate your work.

MARIJUANA FILLED FIREWOOD
'Hello, is this the Sheriff's Office?'
'Yes. What can I do for you?'
'I'm calling to report 'bout my neighbor Virgil Smith....He's hidin' marijuana inside his firewood! Don 't quite know how he gets it inside them logs, but he's hidin' it there.'
'Thank you very much for the call, sir.'
The next day, the Sheriff's Deputies descend on Virgil's house. They searched the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave. Shortly, the phone rings at Virgil's house.
'Hey, Virgil! This here's Floyd....Did the Sheriff come?'
'Yeah!'
'Did they chop your firewood?'
Yep!'
'Happy Birthday, buddy!'
(Rednecks know how to git-R-dun).

Daniel Wilson, MBA

I started my MBA program last night. It dosen't seem like it will be too bad as far as the difficulty of the work goes, but it will be time consuming. I have class every Thursday night for the next 71 weeks. Oh well, what can you do.

I thought this was funny!

As a Delta Air Lines jet was flying over Arizona on a clear day, the co-pilot was providing his passengers with a running commentary about landmarks over the intercom.

"Coming up on the right, you can see the Meteor Crater, which is a major tourist attraction in northern Arizona. It was formed when a lump of nickel and iron, roughly 150 feet in diameter and weighing 300,000 tons, struck the earth at about 40,000 miles an hour, scattering white-hot debris for miles in every direction. The hole measures nearly a mile across and is 570 feet deep."

From the cabin, a passenger was heard to exclaim, "Wow! It just missed the highway!"

Urgent: ALL Zero Down Loans Going Away Effective October 1, 2008

With the new bill that was signed into law this week, ALL zero down loans will no longer be available as of October 1, 2008. After that date, a minimum down payment of 3.5% will be REQUIRED!

If you were even thinking about making a move into a new home you need to be aware of this new law. In less then 60 days EVERYONE will be required to have a down payment. Many potential homebuyers will be shut out of the market if they do not take advantage of this small remaining time frame.

Many homebuyers are waiting on the sidelines trying to perfectly time the bottom of the market. Unfortunately, it won’t matter to most, as then they will now not have the down payment to qualify for a home now.

On a beginning starter home of only $150,000 the new minimum down payment requirement would be $5,250. On a $250,000 home that minimum down payment requirement would be $8,750!

Most homebuyers do NOT need this down payment now- not until October 1, 2008.

If you were thinking about getting into a new home and don’t want to have to save the money for a down payment, you must contact us immediately! You can right now still get into a home with zero down payment.

But hurry; as of October 1, 2008 this will no longer be an option!

To learn more, contact me at 480-560-7688.

A look at Lost Season 5

'Lost' producers drop hints about next season
Comic-Con -- Viewers watching the start of the next season of "Lost" will not initially know when or where the action is set. Producers will shake up the flashback/flashforward formula. The anonymous other Lost survivors on the Zodiac raft with Daniel Faraday will probably not survive.

Annnnd…that’s about it.

The Comic-Con "Lost" panel was very entertaining, despite being, as is necessary, light on spoilers. Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse know better than anybody on the TV side how to play with the event’s panel format. There are videos screened for the occasion, surprise guests (Matthew Fox) and humorous prizes for fans asking questions.
Still, there were some tantalizing details for Losties.

On the flashbacks/flashforwards: "We have something new this year," Cuse says, "we’re going to mix it up."

But the shows will still transition to ... somewhere/sometime ... presumably.
They don't want the person who does the "whooshing" sound not to be employed, Lindelof jokes.
"The flash forwards were a bit limiting [last season] because we could only focus on the Oceanic Six, because we didn’t want to reveal other things -- like Desmond getting off the island," Lindelof says. "When season five starts, you won’t know when or where you are, and the way we tell stories will be different too."

Hmm ... what could the flashes be? Simply a combination of forwards and backwards? Showing daydreams? Night terrors? Hallucinations caused by ingesting Dharma Initiative shrooms?
Back to the fan questions: Is the seemingly immortal Richard Alpert the inspiration for the four-toed statue?

"You’re going to see him barefoot in the very near future – and that’s a pun – in the very near future," Lindelof says.

Other bits: When Desmond turned the key and everything turned purple at the end of season two, did the island jump? No, say the producers. Will Daniel Faraday and the random others Oceanic survivors on the Zodiac raft survive last season's finale? Faraday did, but as for the others ... "there's a monsoon coming," Cuse says.

Oh, and the dog, Vincent? "It’s safe to say that Vincent is going to make it to the very end of the show."

RockBand

We had dinner over at Mandy's moms last night and she has a Wii. Seth, Mandy's brother, just got RockBand for his Wii and so he brought it over. We played for probably about 2 hours. It was a blast! I had played Guitar Hero before on Jordan's Wii and wasn't very good at it, but RockBand has a guitar, bass, drums and a microphone. I started on the drums and then moved to the guitar and even did the microphone. I"m not sure if anyone else has played RockBand, but if you get the chance, do it. It was so much fun!

Just 34 hours left for TV's "Lost"

Stay tunned for more "Lost" news. I found this article on azcentral.com.

Jul. 26, 2008 10:22 AM Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- "Lost" fans can start expecting some answers.

Writer-producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof said Friday that they know exactly how the ABC series will end.

"We have 34 hours left for you guys to see - seasons five and six," Lindelof told the Comic-Con crowd. "We owe answers. We know the answers that we owe. The questions have to begin to diminish."

"We know where we're going and we know how long we have left to tell the story," Cuse added. "There's also an organic process that goes on."

They compared the process to a road trip, which can often include alternate routes and unexpected stops.

The showrunners said they will continue to supplement their storytelling with Webisodes, mobisodes (on mobile devices) and games.

"We're doing it primarily for the die-hard fans of the show," Lindelof said.

They offered no spoilers at Entertainment Weekly's panel dedicated to visionary TV producers. But they did reveal they'd like to see the return of Mr. Eko.

"Mr. Eko was a character we really loved," Cuse said of the role played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Turns out the British actor didn't like living and working on an island.

"Hawaii was not his bag," Cuse continued. "Real life intervened and forced us to end the arc of that character much sooner than we would have liked."

No word on whether Mr. Eko will come back when "Lost" returns this fall.

'Dark Knight' sets record for reaching $300M

I predicted it before it came out and now it appears that my perdiction might come true. We saw it on opening day and I loved it. I plan on seeing it again. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. The article below is from azcentral.com.

'Dark Knight' sets record for reaching $300M
by Christy Lemire - Jul. 27, 2008 12:39 PM

LOS ANGELES - "The Dark Knight" continues to obliterate box office records, crossing the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The epic Batman saga grossed $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters, pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Sunday.
That surpasses the record set in 2006 by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took 16 days to make $300 million.

The latest Batman installment already had broken records for best opening weekend at $158.4 million and best single-day with $66.4 million. It's also busted records in its showings on IMAX screens, making $16.3 million in its first 10 days.

Fellman expects that "Dark Knight" could reach $400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record "Shrek 2" set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.

"What can you say? We've been getting a lot of repeat business coming in," Fellman said. "Our audience is expanding, like you would expect with terrific word-of-mouth and strong reviews. Our audience is getting a little bit older, that's the good news. We're finding the younger demographic, male and female, coming back."

He called it "a big surprise," adding: "To do $300 (million) plus in 10 days, we just couldn't have predicted it."

"The Dark Knight" could pass "Titanic" as the highest-grossing film in U.S. history, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. James Cameron's 1997 extravaganza made $600,788,188 domestically, a record no other movie has come close to touching.
"The Titanic' record has sat in a lock box for 10 years. It's a tall order but if any film has a chance to surpass that number, it's got to be 'Dark Knight,' " Dergarabedian said.

Director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to his 2005 origin story "Batman Begins," which again stars Christian Bale as the tormented comic-book crime fighter, initially benefited from the mystique of the late Heath Ledger giving his masterful, last performance as the Joker, Dergarabedian said.

"Now, it's all about word-of-mouth," he said. "The first weekend, there was this huge, pent-up demand and eagerness by audiences to see this movie. Now, it's like a freight train - it seems to be unstoppable."

Part of the film's visual allure comes from the fact that 30 minutes of it were shot with IMAX cameras, including an elaborate bank-heist scene at the start.

"Chris (Nolan) has clearly hit upon something," said Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "There are many important filmmakers who we've spoken with in the last couple of weeks about shooting with IMAX cameras."

Kolby's surgery (procedure) went well!

On Friday, July 25th, Kolby had surgery on his 3rd knee (that's what Dave calls it). It was outpatient surgery and only lasted about a half hour or so. We are grateful that everything went well and the problem has been corrected. He got two stitches which will dissolve on their own in about a week. Friday and Saturday he complained about the pain (he did not like taking the medicine) but he hasn't mentioned anything today, so I think he is back to normal. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers! A special thanks to Mom and Dad who got up early and watched Brady for us!

Baptism of Jordan Kelly

We got the invitation in the mail yesterday and just wanted to let you know that we will be there. What can we bring for the lunch afterwards?

On your mark, get set, blog!

I hope that everyone is able and willing to get involved in this blog so that we can all be more informed and become closer as a family. Feel free to read, post and comment about anything and everything.(Pretty clever title, huh. I came up with it all by myself)
